Plain English Summary
LeastAction is source-available. That means the source code is public and you can:
- Self-host LeastAction within your own organisation
- Inspect, audit, and modify the code
- Build internal tooling on top of it
- Contribute improvements back under a CLA
What you cannot do without a commercial licence:
- Offer LeastAction (or a substantially similar product) as a managed service to third parties
- Remove or obscure copyright notices or the licence text
- Sublicence or resell the software
This summary is for convenience only. The sections below are the legally binding terms.
Licence Grant
LeastAction Labs, Inc. (“Licensor”) grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free licence to use, copy, modify, and distribute the LeastAction software (“Software”) subject to the conditions set out in this licence.
This licence applies to all source code, documentation, configuration files, and assets in the LeastAction repository unless a file explicitly states a different licence.
Permitted Uses
The following uses are permitted under this licence:
- Internal deployment. You may deploy and run the Software within your own organisation for internal purposes, including production data pipelines.
- Modification. You may create derivative works for your own internal use. If you distribute those modifications to third parties (other than as part of an internal deployment), you must make the modifications available under this same licence.
- Evaluation and testing. You may use the Software to evaluate its fitness for your use case, including in sandboxed environments.
- Contribution. You may submit contributions to the LeastAction project subject to our Contributor Licence Agreement (CLA).
Restrictions
The following are expressly prohibited without a separate written commercial licence from LeastAction Labs:
- Managed service offering. You may not offer the Software, or any product substantially derived from it, as a service to third parties (i.e., hosting the Software on behalf of customers).
- Competitive product. You may not use the Software to build a competing pipeline orchestration product or service that is made available to third parties.
- Trademark use. You may not use the LeastAction name or logo in any way that implies endorsement or official affiliation without our written consent.
- Licence removal. You may not remove, obscure, or alter this licence notice or any copyright attribution in the Software.
Contributions
By submitting a pull request, patch, or other contribution to the LeastAction project, you agree that:
- You have the right to submit the contribution
- You grant LeastAction Labs a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, modify, and distribute your contribution as part of the Software under any licence we choose
- Your contribution does not knowingly infringe any third-party intellectual property rights
A formal CLA may be required for significant contributions.
Patents
Each contributor grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free patent licence to make, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Software, where such licence applies only to those patent claims that the contributor is legally entitled to grant and that are necessarily infringed by the Software as contributed.
If you institute patent litigation claiming that the Software infringes your patents, your licence under this section terminates automatically.

Commercial licences are available for:
- Managed service providers and SaaS builders
